Perverts, women don’t get sexual harassment08 Nov 2011 08:28 am

If you had the displeasure of watching Fox’ Hannity show last night you would have heard something disgusting that goes to the heart of why sexual harassment exists.

Dick Morris, a former Clinton adviser who has since done everything in his power to dog his former boss, was commenting on the newest Herman Cain sexual harassment revelation involving Sharon Bialek, who used to work for the National Restaurant Association’s education foundation when Cain was there.

She now claims Cain, the head of the NRA at the time and presumably in a position of power over many other women, put his hand under her skirt and also pushed her head towards his genitals. She didn’t report him at the time of the event, which she alleges happened more than a decade ago, but has now come out to tell her story during the Cain firestorm.

Morris isn’t buying any of her claims, which is his prerogative, but he joined the sleaze parade when he made this comment about Bialek: “I look forward to her spread in Playboy.”

I’m sure he does, and I’m also sure that this type of lecherous behavior, and the acceptance of it by men, and often women, is what keeps it coming. (more…)

Day of pigs18 May 2011 10:01 am

pig.jpgA bigwig fraternity at Yale University, which both President Bushes were members of, was suspended for five years.

According to a New York Daily News story that was published yesterday the pledges were chanting:

“No means yes, yes means anal” over and over again. The pledges were also reportedly carrying a sign that read “We love Yale sluts.”

We shouldn’t be to surprised too that these young kids, who are supposed to be among “the best and brightest,” think it’s OK to treat women like trash.

If you are shocked you probably didn’t check out the news yesterday. The airwaves were filled with new heights in sexist behavior. (more…)

“I want to see my coworker naked”25 Jan 2011 12:08 pm

coworker.jpgIn my continuing coverage of how a tweet could get you fired, I came across a great one today.

“I want to see my coworker naked”

Yes, I just saw this tweet on Twitter and figured I should point out to everyone that there are a lot of people on Twitter and we are reading what you tweet. I know, this seems obvious, but Twitter is not your personal diary. Last time I looked, Twitter had 100 million registered users.

Maybe your coworker is indeed hot, and maybe he or she really wants to see you naked too, but even so, a manager may freak upon reading it in real time. Many bosses tell me they are heightened to the whole sexual harassment thing, which can cause big headaches and even lawsuits. I’m all for worker privacy and don’t think you should be penalized for a lot of what you say and you do on the Web or on your own time, but I’m thinking a tweet sent at 11 am might be during work hours.

So, maybe sexual fantasies should stay on the off line QT. Or hey, I may just be a prude so disregard this post.

Is there a tweet you’ve read recently that had firing all over it?

Teens need to know about their rights at work04 Nov 2010 08:43 am

teen.jpgYesterday I met two very smart 16-year-old girls who surprisingly knew little about what’s appropriate in the workplace.

I spoke at a local library about teens and work, and one of the parts of my presentation that intrigued the two teens I met the most was on workplace rights, including everything from being paid what you’re owed to sexual harassment.

I talked to them about minimum wage, and making sure you get paid overtime if you work overtime. And I also told them it was not cool if your manager pressures you to date him, or a co worker sends you sexually explicit text messages.

They both giggled a bit, and the one teen felt comfortable enough to ask me a question about a friend of hers who worked at a fast food restaurant.

The friend, she said, had seen something at work and wondered if it crossed the line. A male manager at the store, who was in his early twenties, told a female worker who was 16 that she had to clean up an area in the kitchen. The girl said she would get to it when she was finished cleaning another section he had asked her to clean but he wasn’t happy with her response.

He said, “you can either clean this up now or you can give me a blow job.” (more…)

Fashion you won’t, or will, be wearing to the office15 Sep 2010 09:04 am

“Look at her!”

jets-reporter.jpg

A television reporter, Ines Sainz, covering the NFL was harassed by players for her work attire.

hilary.jpg

If you’ve heard one joke, you’ve heard a million about Hillary Clinton’s endless colorful pantsuits. Even she jokes about them.

wearable.jpg

And this outfit to the bottom left is what the Wall Street Journal calls “wearable” clothing for the average women that came out of designer shows this week at Fashion Week.

What the heck’s a working women to do?

Men have their work uniforms, dark suit and tie for days when the big boss is in the office, or for job interviews; and khakis and a polo shirt for casual day.

But women have an endless array of outfits to chose from. But chose at your own peril. The risks of picking the wrong get up are looking slutty, dowdy, or ridiculous. And any of these adjectives can sometimes even hurt your career.

Not only that, women have to consider changing their looks as they move up the ladder. One high-powered corporate woman I know recently told me a promotion she got sent her shopping for better-looking clothing. She felt she had to look more put together and just couldn’t throw anything on anymore.

Her solution, a bunch of simple, but tailored dresses she bought at Marshalls. It was easier, she surmised, because she didn’t have to spend the time matching tops with skirts and pants, or jackets.

Still, even a dress can have its problems. If it’s too low cut, you’ll end up the office tramp. But if it’s too high cut, suddenly your the uptight bitch.

Or maybe we should just stop caring about such labels altogether gals! All this focus on what we wear is taking our eyes off the prize. Women still make up less than 13 percent of the corner offices, according to Catalyst, a group that helps promote women in leadership.

How about we all start donning this number:

But you probably don’t want to do this:

CEOs, horny or otherwise, get too many breaks06 Sep 2010 10:54 pm

Job applicants with a bad history are typically screwed. If there’s information out there about your negative financial background, your crummy criminal background, or your salacious sexual background, you’re going to find it hard to find a job.

Unless you’re a CEO.

charles.jpgThe president of Oracle, Charles Phillips, who had a mistress take out a billboard about his philandering is being replaced by the disgraced HP CEO Mark Hurd who was accused of sexual harassment and was kicked out of HP a month ago because of misconduct regarding his expenses.hurd.jpg

Some reports say Oracle CEO Larry Ellison is tennis buddies with Hurd. Probably all you need today to get a sweet job in Corporate American.

The question is, will it help the company? If there’s a doubt, will shareholders, or workers question the choice? But more importantly, will Oracle women rise up and say, “this is unacceptable!” (more…)

Time to take sexual harassment seriously09 Aug 2010 08:55 am

harrass.jpgThe CEO of Hewlett Packard, Mark Hurd, got fired last week following an investigation into sexual harassment claims made by a former contractor, Jodie Fisher.

After the probe into the allegations, the company found Hurd had not violated HP’s sexual harassment policy but he did monkey around with $20,000 of company funds. hurd.jpg

jodie.jpgNow Fisher, who was also a reality show contestant, is saying: “I was surprised and saddened that Mark lost his job over this.”

Sources have said Hurd and Fisher settled the harassment matter but few details were disclosed.

So I’m missing something. They settled the matter. She didn’t want him fired. Well, why the heck not? If a guy is harassing you sexually, so much so that you write a letter to company officials, then why would she want him going after other women? Or was it all about the money? (more…)
