Talk about an office romance gone bad. Don’t you all feel like there was something just not right about Lisa Nowak, the NASA astronaut that reportedly drove 900 miles in a diaper to confront the woman she thought was stealing her love.
I can’t help but cringe at this story. Women have fought so hard to advance in life/careers. Here we are, proud to have women astronauts, and one does something like this. It plays into every stereotype of emotional, on-the-edge women. Part of me wishes her behavior was indeed a result of being up in space. Some experts say it can drive a person batty.
If it’s not a result of space fever, then I think all women should take a long hard look in the mirror. Life is not about love triangles and soap operas. Let’s stand up and be useful citizens of this world already!

I listened and watched this story with open-mouthed amazement….no way! How can you drive 900 miles and never have the thought “What the hell am I doing!?!?” I did not feel that astronaut Nowak would be held up as a means to disparage all working women. I hope that the working woman/career diva has been around long enough that so that she is seen individually not monolithically.
All groups of people have their “fools for love.” 8-}

what are the characteristics of a great astronunt? being obbsessive compulsive, and the ability to hyperfocus. so you think that NASA is going to untrain these people after the mission is over to be normal humans? ya, like the military is going to untrain our solders when they get home to go from military machine, to normal civilian human.
but on the other hand, has anyone talked to the MAN in this thing? if HE would not have been encouraging TWO women at the same time, if he would have been a gentleman about the whole thing, and if he would have left marred women alone………… people always jump on the wonky woman, but remember, there was a man that instigated it.

i will respectively have to disagree with you eileen mac. (this is rare because usually i agree with everything she says.)
i don’t care how much a man encourages women, we are responsible for our own behavior. guys mess with many women at once, but so do gals. either way it is no reason to act a fool…don’t you think?
and rai, you are right…painting a whole group in one stroke is..shall i say…dumb. i was angry after hearing the story and have seen so many people do really foolish things because they claimed they were in love that i took it out on all women. bad careerdiva!!!
i love all career women everywhere. will you all ever forgive me?

you are right eve. we are responsible for our own actions. and you are right as well Rai, did she not think some time during that 900 mile drive, oh my gosh, what am i doing?? if i calculate right that is a 15 hour drive? i was thinking last night, did she not have to stop for gas? i was wondering if she had any friends to talk to and if they had a hint of what she was doing?
i would put this in the ‘just snapped’ catagory. i don’t think it will damage the working women in climbing the ladder. but it should make us rethink what our priorities are. we all need balance.
